AMA 573, IMAA 138                            www.tcws.org                                    June 2005

On Sunday, 5 June, Hobbytown USA is holding an INTRODUCTION TO R/C FLYING program at our field.  The intent is to introduce R/C to new participants and this also gives TCWS a chance to increase membership.

A schedule of events will be posted at the field this weekend.

All are welcome and the more planes we have available to demonstrate to the visitors, the more impressive the Introduction will be.

Any questions / comments contact Jack Hilbert (610.657.5286) or jdhilbert@aol.com.

President’s Message…

TCWS has a busy summer schedule ahead!  First, don't forget that the next Club Meeting has been moved up one week to June 12th at 1:30 at the field.  The following weekend, June 18th and 19th is our Fun Fly Events, Giant on Saturday and all scales on Sunday.  Help is needed on both days of the event and on Friday the 17th at noon for event set up.  Letters have been sent to vendors and so far there have been several favorable responses so we will have some nice door prizes to give away at the event.  We need the help and support of ALL Members to assure the event is a success.  This is the second and lasts of the fundraisers for the Club this year so let's all help to make it a success!

Our Club Picnic is scheduled for Saturday August 6th with Sunday the 7th as a rain date.  The Club will supply the pig roast and hot dogs and hamburgers and drinks.  The attending members must donate all other food.  Bud Wunder will post sign up sheets at the field for attendance and food donations.  If you plan to attend and bring any guests you must sign up on the attendance sheet. Members and 1 guest are free, additional guests are $5.00 each paid on the day of the picnic.  Additionally you need to sign up for a food donation.  Bud will have the list of what is needed posted so all you have to do is choose what to bring and sign there.

I wish to personally thank all of you who sent their condolences and prayers to my family with the passing away of my father.  Dale and Karen Loop sent us a nice arrangement of flowers from TCWS.  It was greatly appreciated.

Until next month…                                           John

Unofficial Meeting Minutes… 15 May 2005

Respectfully submitted by Nanci Messersmith for Secretary Jack Hilbert

President, John Messersmith called the meeting to order at 1:30PM at the TCWS flying field pavilion.  (18) Members, (2) associate members, and 3 guests were present.  Dennis Christman won the 50/50 drawing.

John Messersmith read the Secretary’s report for April.  A motion to accept by Bud Wunder, seconded by Dave Renninger, and all approved.  Dale Loop read the Treasurer’s report as of 15 May 2005.  A motion to accept was made by George Case, seconded by Dale Kugler, and all approved.

Old Business

1.      2005 June Fun Fly Event

a.       Volunteers still needed to help out with parking, impound, and flight operations.  Kitchen is fully staffed.  Call John or Dale to help out.

b.      Set up for the Fun Fly is Friday 17 June at noon.  Anyone who can help is encouraged to attend.

c.       John Messersmith has sent prize requests to 30 vendors.  Some have responded favorably. One vendor requested a club roster before sending a prize. After discussion by the membership, it was agreed that it would be sent to them, with only membership home addresses and also a note not to redistribute the roster.

2.      2005 Family Picnic Update

a.       Bud Wunder reported he is putting up a sign in sheet with food needed on Tuesday for people to sign up for items they will bring.  Will also have sign in sheet for members and guests, so we will know how many people plan to attend.

b.      Dale Loop will confirm arrangements with pig roast supplier.

c.       Will discuss more details at the next meeting.

d.      Rain date will be the following day, Sunday 7 August.

3.      Field Care / Maintenance Update

a.      Dennis Christman reported the field has been fertilized and looks good.

b.      George Case cleaned out the small shed and found some fertilizer.  He will be putting Weed and Feed in May and June.

4.      Fuel Sale Recap

a.      Correction: New Professional style coffee maker is $160, not $80. Motion made by Jim Pauley to authorize additional payment of $80 for new coffee maker.  Seconded by Dale Kugler and all approved.

5.      Club Jackets and Shirts

a.      Samples of jackets and shirts are still available for sale at a discount of $2 off each.  See John to buy samples or to order more items.

There was no other old business at this time.

New Business.

1.      New TCWS T-Shirt

We still have about 12 of the old style t-shirts.  We need authorization from the club to put an order together for some new t-shirts.  Motion made to spend money on new t-shirts by Bud Wunder, seconded by Dale Loop and approved by all.

2.  Availability of Airplane Items for Sale

Dale Loop reported the possible opportunity of TCWS purchasing some airplane items made available due to a death in the family of one of Dale’s co-workers.  After some discussion it was agreed that Dale should go and look at the mobile home filled with an assortment of items and report back at the next meeting whether it would be worth our while to buy these things to auction or sell to members.

3.  Flying Dutchman Show

It was reported that there will be a show at the Fairgrounds Square Mall sponsored by the Kutztown Flying Dutchmen on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of June.  Contact Bob Fryer for more information at 610-929-1518.

4.  WWII Weekend

Dale Loop announced that he will be checking to see if he and Karen would be able to set up a TCWS display for the WWII Weekend June 3rd, 4th, and 5th at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum. He is wondering if anyone is taking planes up there. If so, let him know.

There was no other new business at this time.

Announcements

John Messersmith’s Father passed away and Dale and Karen Loop sent flowers on behalf of the club. John thanked TCWS for the flowers.

George Case suggested we get a large tray to put on the floor of the kitchen under the grill to catch the grease.  He also suggested the kitchen floor needs to be pressure washed, and Dave Renninger said he would take care of it. (Dave did the floor on 17 May)

George Case reported that the sheds need to be cleaned out. Many things in there have been there for years and could be thrown out. We will need to get a group together to clean it out.

There were no other announcements at this time.

A motion was made to close the meeting by Bill Eisenhard, seconded by Bud Wunder, and all approved.  Meeting adjourned.
