Old
Business…
1.
Working Airplane Model for Reading Airport Display
a.
Model was completed and delivered to the Airport.
2.
2005 Swap Meet Update
a.
Dale Loop has not yet been able to reserve the Hamburg Field
House for 26 March 2005 but is attempting to do so.
3.
2004 Giant Scale Fly In –
a.
Karen Loop stated she felt the event was a disaster and
suggested ways to raise more money next year and encourage more attendance by
charging landing fees. This idea
was discussed but not accepted by the membership.
b.
On a more positive note, the event was successful in that we
raised over $950 in profits for the club. We
wish to thank all the volunteers to came out all three days to set-up, help
complete the various tasks and tear down the event.
c.
Karen Loop had already scheduled the 2005 event for the same
week end but after discussion with the club membership, it was agreed to go back
to the same, Father’s Day weekend the club had for all the previous years as
many believed the sudden change of date this year certainly caused confusion had
some affect on the low attendance.
4.
Family Picnic –
a.
Dale
Loop is organizing the Picnic and the Fun Fly contests.
b.
A
sign-in sheet is posted at the field so a head count is available to order the
right size pig.
c.
All
those attending are asked to bring a covered dish to share.
d.
Any
volunteers wishing to help should contact Dale Loop.
5.
Field Fertilization -
a.
Field
fertilization and weed control is now complete.
6.
Kitchen Improvements -
a.
All
improvements have been completed - thanks to Lee Buskirk, Dave Renninger, Terry
Miller and all the others who have volunteered their time and talents to make
our Kitchen the envy of all R/C clubs (and some restaurants).
There was no other old business at
the time.
New Business…
.
1.
Boundary Marker
a.
Karen Loop suggested a PVC pipe stand be erected on the West
end of the field with a flag so as to clearly mark the flying boundary limit.
Pilots flying past the marker would be “grounded” for the rest of
that day.
b.
The idea was discussed and not accepted by the membership.
2.
Club Fund Raising
a.
Karen Loop suggested we consider holding another fly –in
event later in fall to raise funds. After
a discussion, it was agreed that it was too late in the season to try to
organize such an event and attract AMA/IMAA support and participation.
(Note: It was agreed that all such events need to be planned and
scheduled by December / January time period to get full benefit of scheduling.)
It would be possible to hold an event and just invite local clubs.
b.
Karen Loop requested ideas from the membership for
alternative ways to raise funds and if anyone has ideas, they can contact Karen
or bring them up at the July meeting.
3.
Club Sign
a.
George Case suggested that it may be possible to get Penn DOT
to install signs at the intersection of 143 and 78 as well as the WYE at 143 and
Old 222, to show directions to the TCWS Field.
b.
Jack Hilbert said he would check into the requirements.
There was no other new business at
the time

Technical Information… Propellers
Editors Note: - The following article appeared in the November 1997 issue
of the Model Airplane News and was submitted to TCWS for sharing by Bud Wunder.
The original source of the information was Editor –In-Chief, Larry Marshall...
Question: – Why do most R/C models use two blade props rather than three and four
blade props like the full size planes do?
Answer:
- “The reason we have two bladed props is efficiency!
In fact, a one-blade prop would be better than a two-blade. Because prop
blades operate in the wash of the blade ahead of them in the arc, the more
blades you have, the closer they are to each other and the less efficient they
are at turning torque and rpm into thrust.
The reason high powered, full size aircraft started using multi-blade
props was ground clearance. To get
enough blade area to absorb the power of Pratt & Whitney radials and Rolls
Royce engines, they needed multiple blades.
They couldn’t mount a large enough two-blade prop and still have
sufficient ground clearance.
Providing you can sacrifice a bit of power for style and scale accuracy,
a multi-blade prop would look great on a scale model. Typically, you will need a
prop with a slightly smaller diameter than the two-blade prop recommended by the
engine manufacturer.”
Editor Note ;--Our thanks to Bud Wunder for contributing this information
- if anyone else has information or articles they would like to share with the
other members, please let me know.
From the TCWS Snack Bar…
We
would like to take this opportunity to thank all those members and their
families who have supported the dinners we have on the Sundays following our
outdoor club meetings. Not only is
this a form of small fund raiser for the club, but equally as important, it’s
a way for the members to socialize and get to know each other in different ways.
We still have dinners planned for July, August, September and October.
Please feel free to suggest what you would like to see as a main course. A
suggestion has been made for a CLAM BAKE. This
idea will be discussed at the July meeting.
Also
– THANKS to all those who regularly support the Kitchen by regular patronage
on weekends for lunch and suppers even when we don’t have a meeting scheduled.
For those of you who are unaware, because we have such a functional
kitchen arrangement, we have routinely served items such as pancakes, egg
sandwiches, steak / cheese steak sandwiches, sausage sandwiches and French
fries, in addition to the normal menu of burgers and hot dogs.
We
have kept a larger selection of cold drinks then in the past and are very
willing to accommodate all reasonable requests. PLEASE DONOT HESITIATE TO ASK.
Naturally,
the success we have had is only possible due to the continued support and help
from members who help prepare and serve the food.
october fun-fly -
The idea was raise at the July meeting concerning a Fun
–Fly in October as another club fund raising event.
While it was agreed that it is too late to get a strong AMA/IMAA support,
we could have an event and simply invite he local R/C clubs to attend.
John Messersmith and jack Hilbert have volunteered to organize such an
event and this item will be discussed in more detail at the July meeting.
