2003 Fun-Fly
Recommendations Larry Smith has checked with AMA.
The calendar is clear for 2003. The
fun-fly may be considered a 1-day event next year. It
was noted that a couple of other Fathers Day events are occurring. One recommendation is to hold either a 2-day Giant
Scale event or a 1-day Saturday meet. The
trend is leaning more towards open fly on Sunday with the events. The final recommendation is to be made later from
a Board of Directors (BOD) meeting.
Colasanti Printing
Carl was not present at the August meeting. His
presentation on clothing printing and pricing will be postponed until next month.
New Business
Board of Directors
(BOD) replacement A replacement is needed for Larry Smith. As of September, his work will be taking him away. The BOD is made up of the (4) officers and (3)
additional members. Dave Renninger has been
nominated to fill the position. Walt Gladney
is to contact Dave for verification.
Newsletter (NL)
Listing Dave Geist is listed under the Grounds Committee group. This is incorrect.
George Case is to replace Dave on the committee.
There was no other
new business at the time.

2. Safety Benches
Fellow AMA members
My name is Charlie Meyer (CMeyer2474@aol.com) and I am the Field Safety
Officer for the Meroke RC Club (NY). It has
been my experience to witness some very serious cut fingers due to spinning propellers
from an airplane that was not being held properly. I
have designed a Field bench to add safety and convenience to our wonderful hobby. The "Safety Bench" has been featured
in a construction article in the August 2002, AMA magazine "Model Aviation "see
page 66.
Please bring this article to the attention of your club for their evaluation.
I have also
attached a picture of the standard size bench and a modified version .The Bench on the
left is holding a typical 46-size airplane while the modified version on the right is
holding a ¼ scale airplane.

Helpful Hints
Drill Depth Gage
Sometimes I carve foam with a drill bit in my rotary tool, but I need a certain depth. I
measure the depth I need on the bit, and wrap a piece of masking tape around the bit above
the mark. Then when the bit is spinning, I know not to go past the edge of the tape. This
will work if you need a not-all-the-way-through hole in almost any material.
Cleaning Epoxy from
hands
After holding parts
together attached with epoxy, you notice some epoxy got on your fingers. Before it's fully
cured, just remove the epoxy with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and a rag. It does a
good job of removing epoxy.
