Next Meeting:

          Thursday, October 17th, 2002 @ 7:30 PM

Hamburg Moose Lodge

Old Business…

1.      Board of Director’s (BOD) Mtg. Report – No minutes was taken at the meeting, which occurred on August 24, 2002.

·          The Fun-Fly will take place as a 2-day affair and tentatively will occur 1 week earlier on June 5th and 6th.  This is the same date as the Reading WWII weekend.

·          The Swap Meet will be held on March 22, 2003, which is a Saturday.  Setup is on March 21st @ 1 p.m. until finish, approximately 5 p.m. (?)  Volunteers will be needed.  An organizational meeting for the committees will be held sometime in November.  Advertising and sanctioning need to be taken care of by this time.  The treasurer is to write checks for the advertising and sanctioning in the amounts of $10, $20, and $36.  A motion was made by Bud Wunder and seconded by Bob Grim to authorize the checks by the treasurer.

2.      Colasanti Printing – Dave Renninger is to see into getting a copy of the more simplified TCWS club logo for use in a later presentation by Carl Colasanti.

3.      Board of Directors (BOD) Position – Dave Renninger has respectfully declined his nomination.  The position is still open for nominations.

4.      Treasurer’s Position (Dale Loop) – Dale Loop’s employment has made it difficult for his attendance at future meetings.  The TCWS club bylaws Article IV, Section 5 states that the “Treasurer shall present an accurate and up to date financial report to the membership at each monthly meeting for their approval.”  As long as the report is presented at the meetings, any other council member may read it.

New Business…

1.      2003 TCWS Fun-Fly – The topic of the field hay cutting vs. the 1-week earlier schedule was mentioned.  There are still several other issues to work out as well.  More discussions on this are to follow.

There was no other new business at the time.

Dear “RC Club Chief”,

I want to introduce GIANTSCALEPLANES.COM. We are a local (Coopersburg, PA) bunch of guys with a lot of SCALE PLANES and GIANT SCALE PLANES. Some of you know of us, and some do not! Anyway, we would like to offer your club some great savings on the stuff we manufacture and distribute all over the USA and beyond.

We carry planes from 55-109”: Giles, Staudachers, CAPs, EXTRAs, Sukhoi, P47, P51, F4U, Chips and sooo much more!  We also carry our own line of 1st class 30/46 and 60 size HELIS and support, so bring out your friend or explore your interest. Also stay tuned to our new 50-size, which is coming out later this summer!

Talk with the other members and discuss this following great offer: If you, as a club, can get an order together on 5 planes, we give you a 5% discount. If you get more planes (10+) we will give you a club discount on 15%, and over 20 planes up till 25% CLUB DISCOUNT!

DISCOUNT criteria:

1) Entire purchase must be made with 1 payment!

2) Entire purchase must ship to 1 address – or 1 pick up at a terminal or at our store!

Talk with the guys in your club who can organize this, and give me a call: 610-282-4811, and ask for E.T.  Looking forward to working with you and your club!

Best regards,

E.T./GIANTCSALEPLANES.COM (et@ewtech.com)

3.      AMA Official Notice – Closing of Torrey Pines Glider port in San Diego, California

To: All Modelers Worldwide

It is of vital importance to the future of our sport that you are made aware that the Torrey Pines Glider port in San Diego, California has been closed to radio-controlled sailplanes, this despite the fact that this glider port is listed on the City, State, and National Registers of Historic Sites for all forms of motorless flight.

The remaining paragraph description of the event and concern is available on the TCWS club website @ www.tcws.org/information.htm or by mail by request.  This type of situation concerns all R/C modelers and action via a letter or note is requested.  Please take the time and effort to help fellow modelers in need of our assistance.  Thank you.

4.      TCWS Thank You

A big thank you goes out to the many volunteers who assisted in the kitchen and about the field on the September 14th and 15th weekend.   The CAP Squadron #811 Cadets had their rocketry weekend excursion and all had a good time.

Helpful Hints…

Plan Transfer

If you're building a plane from a plan, and you need to trace unusual shapes like formers, try this: Make a photocopy of the parts on the plan you need. Place the photocopy upside down onto balsa sheet, and then iron it on high heat. Some of the toner from the copy will transfer onto the balsa sheet, so you can cut the part out. Be careful though, because this process reverses the image, so it's good for symmetrical shapes only.

6 Firewall Tips

1.      Use a "hole pencil" or other device to accurately mark where to drill holes for the engine mount.

2.      Check blind nuts before you install them in a firewall. Sometimes the threads aren't quite right and it's better to know before you use them.

3.      When possible, it's easier to install blind nuts to the firewall before the firewall is attached to the fuselage.

4.      Always use triangle stock in the corners near a firewall; these add a lot of strength to the corners.

5.      After the blind nuts are in the firewall, use a little thick CA or epoxy around the outside flange to secure them, but make sure you don't get glue on any threads.

6.      Use hex bolts for engine mounts, and use the little hex wrenches. The 90-degree bend in the tool allows better leverage when tightening engine bolts.
