Old Business…

1.      Fall Field Feeding – This event is scheduled to occur in the next 2 weeks.  This will be the same portion of weed & feed as agreed upon for 2002.  A discussion was held regarding the whole field.  The Green Giant Company is to stop at the field and present a quote on the work.  At the next meeting Walt will present the quote.  The club and volunteers will perform the rolling and lime application.  We may aerate and have the whole procedure done in the spring, including the pit area.

2.      Lawn Mower Tarp – Bud Wunder and George Case have discussed the issue.   George stated that the new tarp was too small to use as a replacement.

3.      Father’s Day Fun-Fly – The suggestion was made to move up the date by 1 weekend.  Dennis Christman mentioned a field cutting conflict with the new date.  A suggestion was made to try a Friday evening informal fly-in and an official Saturday event.  According to the local township officer, no overnight camping is permitted at the field.  However, “guarding” of personal flight equipment, which happens to be during night hours, is permitted.  A formal letter is to follow in the mail by Walt Gladney outlining an “open” Friday evening flying event followed by the Saturday formal giant scale Fun-Fly on June 13th & 14th.

4.      Board of Directors Position – Volunteers are needed to accept nominations for a position.  Jack Hilbert has accepted a nomination to fill Larry Smith’s position, but one more is still needed to begin in 2003.

5.      Field House – A down payment has been made to reserve it for the 2003 event.  Checks for the sanctioning have also been sent out.  The insurance coverage had also cleared.

New Business…

1.      2003 Officer Nominations – Nominations annually occur at the October meeting.  The following people have been nominated:

Officers

·          President – Walt Gladney

·          Vice President – Nelson Gould

·          Secretary – Jeff Shriver

·          Treasurer – Dale Loop

Board of Directors

·          Vince Indelicato (to replace John Weidman)

Nominations will be closed during the November meeting.

2.      Cap Squadron #811 – The TCWS have been approached to participate in a static display event in Reading on December 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (setup from 7-8 a.m.).   A motion was made by Jack Hilbert and seconded by Vince Indelicato to have the club become involved.  Rick Boyer is to head-up arranging the details and Walt Gladney will contact Tony Talarigo to confirm our participation.

3.      TCWS Ads – The club flyers and cards are reportedly gone at Hobbytown USA, the Iron horse, and Props & Wheels.  Dave Renninger is to be contacted regarding refills.

There was no other new business at the time.

Announcements…

1.      2003 TCWS Club Dues

The 2003 TCWS club dues are now due in the amount of $50 payable to the club secretary, Dale Loop.  After January 1, the dues will be raised to $75.  Dale can be reached at mrbehavan2@aol.com, 1150 Hex Highway, Hamburg, PA  19526, or at 610-562-0643.  As a reminder, Dale won’t be present at the winter meetings due to a conflict with his work schedule.   Please make arrangements to get your dues to him on time.

2.      2003 TCWS Officer & Board of Directors (BOD) Positions

Nominations are still open for all Officers and one (1) BOD position.   Votes will be cast at the November meeting.

3.      Field Safety and Courtesy Reminder (Again)

As the season winds down once again, everyone should be reminded of the ever-important safety concerns at the field:

·          No flying before 10 a.m.

·          Calling out take-offs, landings, and “on-the-fields”

·          Placing ALL transmitters and frequency pins on the impound rack when not in use

·          Picking up all trash and paper towels after cleaning models

·          Adhering to all rules of the AMA

4.      Cap Squadron #811 Event - Centennial Of Flight

I am currently serving on the Centennial of Flight committee at the Reading Regional Airport, and as such we are putting together aviation related events over the next year and approaching interested groups and participants to attend and benefit from these events.

The first event the committee is currently working on is "Christmas in the Air", after a 3 year hiatus, it is returning to Reading to give children ages 8-17 a chance to take that first flight for free, have breakfast w/ Santa and a number of other activities planned.

As a supporter of CAP Sqdn #811, I would like to formally invite Wingsnappers to attend with a Static Display and information table if you would be interested. The Date of the event is December 7th, from 8am to 2pm.

Over the next 12 months, we expect to be doing great things, and would like your attendance at events in the future as well. The chance to display flying skills at a full-scale airport is sure to arise next year as well!

Look forward to your reply

Helpful Hints…

Keeping Knives and Blades Safe in Storage

Get a small block of Styrofoam and stick your hobby knife in it. This way the blade won't be exposed, and you won't cut your hand if you reach into a drawer or box for it. Always keep new blades in their original container, and throw away used blades into a closed can with a slot cut in the top, don't just throw them into the trash can by themselves.

Sharp Props

Most propellers have very sharp edges when new, especially at the trailing edge, which can cut your fingers. Always sand the edges smooth with fine sandpaper as soon as you buy them. Be extra careful when turning over someone else's motors by hand, because they might not have sanded the edges of their props.
