oose Lodge
Old
Business
Club hats are
available for $5 each. The club jackets
should be in by now. See John Weidman for
payment and pickup. An inventory of club
apparel will be taken to determine what the club currently has in time for the Annual Swap
Meet.
Under the Swap Meet
work list, about 41% (or 81 tables) have been sold as of January 17th. This results in a gross income of about $865 so
far. A list of the people and tasks were
reviewed at the January meeting. The setup
for the Swap Meet will take place beforehand on Friday, April 5 starting at 1 p.m. at the
Hamburg Field House. Volunteers are welcome.
The Lebanon Show is
March 9th and volunteers are welcome there as well. Please see Walt Gladney for information. Dave Renninger will make the flyers for the
event. The tables for the club are the same
as last year, H3 thru H8. Tickets may be
purchased prior to the event to avoid waiting and to permit early admission for those
willing to help work the show.
For the Fun-Fly
Sanction event, we need an IMAA club roster. Please
contact Walt Gladney if you are IMAA certified.
Under the TCWS
Lease Agreement, there is nothing new to report on at this time. The lawyer has not contacted the club yet. The letter to the Christmans from the club
on behalf of the lawyer was read at the January meeting.
New
Business
The board reports
on disciplinary action as follows. Comments
were heard a member incident at the field late last year.
We are reminded of the basic rules of the AMA along with common decency. Guests and family are the responsibility of the
hosting member. If a guest flyer brings their
own plane to the field, they are required to at least be an AMA member. As a reminder, a guest may fly at the field a
maximum number of 2 times.
As for the
newsletter, some modifications have been made. Keep
the comments and ideas coming. Snail mail and
email updates are always welcome.
The club received a
letter in regard to Federal Land for District 3. The
AMA has started a letter campaign for primarily free flight at a site in New York. The AMA requests club support of the letter to the
Department of the Interior. Please sign and
mail the copy of the letter included with the newsletter.
We have a new
member this month. Please welcome Daniel
Martez to the WingSnappers.
A new Hobbytown USA
store has recently opened at the Tilghman Square shopping center near Route 309 and
Tilghman Street outside of Allentown. Present
your TCWS club membership card along with your Hobbytown card and receive 10% off
large orders.

1. It is with great
sorrow that I inform the TCWS that out Treasurer, Dale Loop, has suffered a heart attack
and had surgery performed for a quadruple bypass on Monday, February 11. I dont know all of the specific details
(including the hospital or room) at this time. According
to his wife, Karen, cards are welcome at his home. I
have taken the liberty of sending a card already on behalf of the TCWS and it is has been
received. Karen thanks everyone for his or
her thoughts. Our prayers are with Dale and
his family. God Bless.

4. Newsletter - Email
vs. Snail Mail (USPS)
Well, the first run
of the January newsletter has been released and the comments were favorable. I want to thank everyone for your support. At this point I have a list of members who prefer
the newsletter emailed and a list of members preferring snail mail. If you wish to change the way you receive the
newsletter in the future, please let me know. I
can even make special requests such as emailing the newsletter in Notepad text
format instead of Word format. Just
let me know.
Helpful Hints
Calculating Wing
Loading
Wing
loading is the key factor for good aerobatic performance.
As a guideline, a Sports Aerobatic wing loading of 19 to 25 ounces per
square foot would be ideal.
Here, a 5 lb model is used for the example.
1. Convert weight of
model from pounds to ounces -
(Weight of model - 5
lb) x (16 oz/lb) = 80 ounces
2. Convert wing area
from square inches to square feet -
(600 sq in) ¸ (144 sq in/sq ft) =
4.17 sq ft
3. Then divide ounces
by square feet -
(80 oz) ¸ (4.17 sq ft) = 19.2
oz per square foot < 25, ok
