Old Business…

1.      Nominations – A motion was made by Bud Wunder and seconded by Sam Miller to accept the nominees as presented at the October meeting and to close nominations.   All nominees accepted the respective positions and another motion was made by Bud Wunder and seconded by Dave Renninger to accept.

2.      Fall Field Feeding – The bill has been paid to Green Giant Co. for fertilizer on the field.  For 2003 the cost for the entire field is $396 per application with 2 applications per year.  A motion was made by Bob Grim and seconded by John Rohrbach to authorize the board of directors to contract with Green Giant for 2003.  Dale Loop is to pay the cost and Walt Gladney is to contact the company.

3.      Reading, PA/December 7 Event – Rick Boyer has setup the information with Tony Talarigo for the event.  Setup time is from 7-8 a.m.  The event celebrates 100 years of aviation.  Several members will participate with their models.  The unload area is the main terminal.

4.      Toilet Truck Turnaround – Dale Loop has reminded Baileys Toilets of the available parking lot space for the turnaround of the trucks.

5.      Reading TV Spot – The event may take place sometime in March.  It will focus on the upcoming 2003 Swap Meet and the June Fun Fly.  It will require a couple of model airplanes to show.  Bud is to continue to check on the details.

6.      Township Notice – Walt Gladney will write a notification letter to the township one month prior to the Fun Fly.

New Business…

1.      Christmas Party – The event will occur after the December meeting downstairs in the Moose Lodge.  Setup is to follow the November meeting.  A motion was made by Dave Renninger and seconded by Sam Miller to have the party.  Spouses and partners of club members are allowed to attend.  A donation will be made to the Lodge, the amount to be determined at the December meeting.

2.      Trees @ The Field – George Case and Bud Wunder have noted that it would be nice to have 6 or so trees cut down at the East end of the field (approximately 6-8” in diameter).  The club is to mark the trees and discuss them at the field with the Christman’s.

3.      Membership – An idea was presented to consider life-members (age 80+) of the club who would have free membership.  This topic is to be considered at a future meeting.

There was no other new business at the time.

Announcements…

1.      Big Thank You

A big thanks goes out to the membership from Dale Loop and his wife Karen for the card they received from the TCWS.  As some may already know, Karen has suffered the tragic loss of her son and his wife.  Our thoughts and prayers are with them this holiday season.

2.      Another Thanks

Many thanks go out to the volunteers that assisted in removing some trees at the field recently.  It is the hard work of members like these that help keep our club growing every year.

3.      2003 TCWS Club Dues

The 2003 TCWS club dues are now due in the amount of $50 payable to the club secretary, Dale Loop.  After January 1, the dues will be raised to $75.  Dale can be reached at mrbehavan2@aol.com, 1150 Hex Highway, Hamburg, PA  19526, or at 610-562-0643.  As a reminder, Dale won’t be present at the winter meetings due to a conflict with his work schedule.   Please make arrangements to get your dues to him on time.

4.      Safety Issues & Frequency Control

This topic cannot be emphasized enough.  Some recent issues include transmitters without ID tags, double checking transmitters with the proper ID tag and frequency pin, and transmitters sitting on the flight line w/o a pin.  A reminder that flyers are responsible for events and mishaps at the field.

5.      Reduced Electric Expenses

Estimates indicate that replacing the existing freezer and refrigerator may break even on the annual wasted electric costs.  Lowe’s has a deal on scratch & dent items in the spring.  A discussion will be held at the December meeting to finalize the decision.  A motion was made by Bud Wunder and seconded by Nelson Gould to pre-authorize up to $500 maximum for the future purchase of the afore-mentioned items by Dale Loop through Dave Renninger.

6.      Initial Cards/Swap Meet

Responses have started to come back in regarding the event.  The club is interested in obtaining tables at the 2003 Lebanon Swap Meet.

7.      Swap Meet 2003 Volunteers

An organizational meeting will be held.  It is tentatively set for December 5th.  Walt Gladney is to verify the time and date.

Helpful Hints…

Engine Mount/Nose gear

If you have a small plane with a very tight engine installation (usually resulting from a very streamlined cowl), often there's no room for a nose gear assembly. Try drilling holes through the engine mount to accept the nose gear wire, and hold it in place with wheel collars. The steering arm can be placed below the engine, even on the outside of the plane. This will work with most engine mounts, even the two-piece ones as long as the engine is rotated 90 degrees.

Setscrew Gripping

Ever have wheel collars not hold on axles? Or maybe that nose gear keeps twisting because the steering arm won't tighten? Try grinding or filing a flat spot on the wire where the setscrew will go. This provides a better surface for the screw to tighten against. Better yet, grind a flat spot with a small diameter (worn out) cut-off wheel. The small diameter causes the flat spot to actually be concave, which helps the setscrew grip even more.
