Old Business…

2002 Fun-Fly Wrap-Up – Dale Loop presented the financial breakdown of the June 15th and 16th event.  The net profit for the club was $857.69.  A big thanks from the TCWS goes out to everyone who participated in the event.  As for the 2003 committee, Larry Smith is to conduct a meeting and report back at the August meeting addressing any issues or concerns.

New Business…

Bill Hafer – He is leaving the hobby due to some health reasons.  Two (2) used models complete with all gear have been donated to the club.  These may be used as raffle items at the 2003 Swap Meet in Hamburg.  For the time, storage is needed for the planes.  Dale Loop has offered to provide the storage space.  The club has since provided a thank you letter for the donation of the models.

Colasanti Club Apparel – Any shirts or garments can be printed.  The two options are heat-press and embroidery.  The embroidery method is cheaper.  In order to guarantee the fit for the customers, one can bring their own clothes in to have printed.  Carl Colasanti is to provide cost breakdowns for various items and a sample shirt to the August meeting.

TCWS Club Shack keys – We have a list of the numbered keys that are currently on loan.  If you have a key, please check and see the number on it.  We still need to identify the holder of keys #12 and #14.   Please let Dale Loop know if you have one of these keys.  He can be reached at mrbehavan2@aol.com or 610-562-0643.

Membership – There are currently 110 members as of July 2002.

There was no other new business at the time.

Announcements…

1.      NEW SUMMER MEETING TIME

Please take note that the new summer meeting time has been permanently revised from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. to allow more time for members to make the meetings.

2.      Sig. Senior and HITEC electric Raffle

Dear Club Members

I direct a high school non-profit vocational tech. aviation program, which includes an RC component.  You can learn more about us by viewing our website at: http://www.aviationed.org.

We are raffling off a Sig. Senior and a HITEC electric together to raise funds for our program and are selling the raffle tickets on Ebay at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1751193415.  The winner gets both models. Tickets are $5, which gives three chances to win.

The Sig Senior comes with a .46 MECOA engine and a Tower transmitter, the Sky Scooter electric comes with everything and can be assembled and flown in fifteen minutes, see info at: http://www.cdmediacorp.com/shopping/Hobby/skyscooter.htm.

A team of high school students supervised by four expert AMA builders built the Sig.   It is a beautiful model and has been flown only twice. Please forward this e-mail to your membership.  It is a great value and helps our students begin a career in aviation.   We will ship the two models anywhere in the US to the winner.  The Drawing is Labor Day.

Best regards,

Chris Rinehart

3.      R/C Enthusiasts Community / MSN Chat Room

Johnnie Antonsen has been scratch building and flying r/c for 50 years, starting as a child in Denmark and having hobby stores in Canada for many years.  He’s retired now and has started a community for R/C enthusiasts from around the world, along with an MSN Chat Room.  It is open 24 hours a day and people can drop by, ask questions and swap ideas.  Johnnie hosts the chat room and his wife maintains the community.  The site is located at:             http://groups.msn.com/rcmodelsflying

4.      Club Field Tables

The carpeted tables at the field are for the airplanes only.  Please do not use the tables under the pavilion for airplanes; people are to eat from them.  There is a “workshop” in the large shed for use in repairing airplanes.

5.      Airplane For Sale

George Case has an Ultra Stick with a G-23 available for sale.  Club member Keith Daubert built the kit.  Please contact George Case if interested.

Helpful Hints…

Firewall Fuel proofing

Firewalls of planes are normally coated with epoxy to help prevent fuel and oil damage to the wood. On planes with no cowling, apply a coat of epoxy on the firewall after you cover the plane with film covering. Make sure the film overlaps a little onto the firewall. This way the epoxy seals the edges of the film covering. Besides, most film adheres better to wood than epoxy, so that's another plus.

Balancing Planes

Here's a good way to balance airplanes. While building your plane, insert a half-inch square piece of plywood where the balance point should be. For a low wing, this should be on the bottom of the wing, and for a high wing this would be on top of the wing (Note: sometimes something will be in the way, like a canopy, and you can't use this technique). When the plane is finished, put a small hook into the plywood and suspend the plane with wire or string. This way you can check the fore/aft balance AND the lateral balance at the same time (Note: a low wing will be suspended inverted).
