 October 12, 2001                  (Tri-County Wingsnappers, Inc. – September 16th, 2001 meeting summary)

Dear Friends…

As our nation attempts to cope with the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, Tri-County Wingsnappers, Inc. shares in the Remembrance of the innocent American Civilians, Law Enforcement Officers and Rescue Workers whose lives were lost.       Their deaths will not be in vain, nor shall their lives be forgotten.

Many of us took our freedom and safety for granted.  Who would ever believe that suddenly, in a split second everything changed, a day in life none of us will ever forget … September 11th, 2001, the

“Attack on America” was broadcast to the nation as the events unfolded.

We are left with feelings of confusion, sorrow, anger and fear. The terrorist attacks were an assault on every aspect of the American way.  This includes our economy, which has created the highest living standards in the history of mankind by channeling the power of free enterprise and the entrepreneurial spirit.  Since the attacks of September 11th, our world has shifted forever.  The aftershocks of the attack are felt across the nation.

The job of determiniting who is responsible for the terrorist attacks and punishing them is for the federal

authorities and the military.  But if you and I are having a single thought of violence or hatred against anyone in the world at this moment, we are contributing to the wounding of the world.  One assumes that whoever did this attack feels implacable hatred for America. You or I may ask, “Why were we selected to be the focus of suffering around the world?”   All this hatred and anguish seems to have religion at its basis.  Isn't something terribly wrong when rage and hatred escalates and wars develop in the name of God?

There's pride in every American heart.  What was meant to drive us apart has really drawn us together, may we always remember.   Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, and working together

(TCWS 10/12/01 - page 2 continued)

is a success.  It is imperative that we pray and offer solace and help to each other.  I've been praying for the victims, for their families, for my family, and for all to find a way to process.  The sadness we are impacted with, for the victims and their families is a loving feeling.

Our leaders seem to be united and I believe God will bring good out of all this sadness.   As a nation, we just have to take things slowly, we, as ordinary citizens.

The whole country is grieving, but the whole country will lift each other up and carry each other through to overcome the grief and see our future as successful, fearless and victorious over the evil we have seen.  Many Americans, across the country rally to show their spirit and support with planned vigils, waving flags, determined to show a resolute, proud face to the rest of the world.  In times like these, people want to show the best sides of their nature.  But recognize that there are those who act only on dark impulses.

In the midst of it all, our notorious flag “Ole Glory” is still there, gracing the lands of our great nation, echoing freedom, they cannot take that away.      May God Bless Us All and God Bless the U.S.A.   Amen.

A club member, to share with you, submitted this article titled “Be Friendly”.

                                                                  Be Friendly

Encourage visitors to take a closer look at what you are flying. Invite them to tour the pit area

and meet the flyers. Most visitors are apprehensive being at the field because they may feel like

they are intruding. But it is the sight, sound and excitement that drew them into watching us fly.

A visitor may become a member.  When a new pilot is on the “Buddy Box,” consider postponing

your flight until they finish. Allow fledgling pilots the opportunity to listen to their engine, focus

on their plane and hear their instructors. Most of the time, they will put in one fight and then sit

out until the jitters cease. We have a people sport. People join our sport because they like being

around people. They also love to talk about airplanes. They can see airplanes just about anywhere,

but people join our club to be around people. From Brazoria County Modelers Assn. Jim Whiteside

By the way… Have you seen Frequency Pin No. 32 in your flight box?  It seems to be lost at the moment.

If you come across it, please return it next time you come to the field.  Thank-you.

I need not remind you, but I will… We have a wonderful club!  Quite a few members and their family came out to the field the morning of Saturday, Sept. 24th, 2001, the fall workday.  After breakfast, we split up into small groups and helped wherever the need was  -- the kitchen – the sheds – the macadam, and when the work was done we gathered together – ate lunch and later a few had planes flying.

The club would like to say a very special thank-you to the following members who generously volunteered his or her time to help out during the fall workday at the Wingsnappers field.  Despite the cool and breezy day, we accomplished much; it was a proud moment for all! (Psst…the soup recipe is in this NL) J

THANK YOU!

Last month’s meeting was opened with a prayer given by Dave Renninger in dedication to the

National Tragedy on September 11th, 2001.

The absolute auction held after the meeting seemed to go rather well.  A few other items planned were scratched for the time being.  A meeting for the organizers of the Annual Swap Meet was held after the regular meeting.   Also, new parking has been arranged on the West side of the buildings at the Wingsnappers field, just follow the drive on the North side of the pavilion.

Two dozen - new hats are to being ordered - for those interested contact John Weidman.  Prices for windbreakers, shirts, and jackets will be available at the October meeting.

In the kitchen, we have some new and friendly help - Laura Hilbert and Sue Hilbert.  All the helpers in the kitchen and food prep did a great job and their help is very much appreciated.    Thank you.

Our first fall/winter meeting will be held Oct. 18th, @ 7:30 PM, at the Hamburg Moose Lodge, Hamburg, PA.  In your packet you’ll find a list of fall/winter meeting dates, on the back of the sheet is a map if you’re not familiar with the area.  Contact dave@early.com if you need additional info.

Also, in your packet you’ll find an article for 2002 Club Dues with an attached envelope for mailing your dues.  Please provide a copy of your 2002 AMA card and a SASE if you wish your card mailed to you, otherwise 2002 cards will be available after the meetings.  Also, if you have any changes in your mailing address, phone number or email address please forward those changes so our files stay current.

On Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October, 21st, 2001 the Reading Squadron #811 Civil Air Patrol

Cadets will return to the Wingsnappers Airfield to setup camp in the woods above the field as per instructions.

There is an invite for parents to accompany as well, as their help is always appreciated. They will be doing cadet Ranger training, astronomy, and rocketry, among other items.   An interesting turn of events will take place when

the cadets challenge Team 1 vs. Team 2 launching of their rockets at the Wingsnappers field.

A number of cadet's expressed great interest in model aircraft, and it should be a fun day for the cadets.

Wingsnappers members are encourage to turn out and show these young adults how much fun radio controlled

model aviation really is! Ranger training will be conducted throughout the day away from the flying field.  Refreshments are available at the Snack-Shack; it will be open both days with a Breakfast menu being planned

Sunday Morning, among other items available. This is a great time to meet new friends and grow closer to old friends.  The Reading Squadron #811 Civil Air Patrol Cadets are looking forward to meeting the Wingsnappers.

Note- Wingsnappers, your help is needed in the kitchen to help cook or serve food or other refreshments on Sat. 10/20 and Sun. 10/21.  Approx. serving plan is three - meals a day among other refreshments. To help with the event whether in the kitchen or being an Instructor please contact Dave Renninger or John Weidman to add your name to the list.  Thank–you in advance.

Colorful mums (flowers) were planted by a few members around clubs sign seen pictured on the

2002 calendar created by Dave R.  The calendar and flowers look great!

…..xXXx:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::xXXx…..

October is not only about the change in season, the cool crisp air, the kaleidoscope of color along country roads, Hayrides, corn mazes or Halloween.  It’s also a time when the Wingsnappers’ hold our annual Nominations for Officers.  Hmmm, so put your thinking caps on and come out to this months meeting to place your nominees on the ballot.   See you there … Oct. 18th @ 7:30 PM, 2nd Fl. Hamburg Moose, Hamburg, PA.

Wanted:   Newsletter Editor(s).                       Contact:  Any officer or me.

The time has come for me to step down from being the clubs Newsletter Eddy.   I will finish this year out with October, November and December 2001 newsletters.  Hopefully, this will allow ample time and opportunity for someone to get set-up for a smooth transition by January 2002.  If some assistance is needed for this transition, an arrangement could be made.  My reasons for stepping down are pure and simple… an overloaded work schedule and the finalizing of a large project fast approaching.

I’d like to take a moment and thank those who assisted in me in the hour before the hour and to those who provided recipes, tech tips or other information to make your NL better.  Your help and loyalty is very much appreciated.  Teamwork makes this a great club; keep up the good work!  I’ll be around to help out from time to time with club events, and I like to fly too… just need more practice on that end to solo.   I guess one could say I’ll be that shadow when the sun shines… nah, just fool’n!  J   Happy fly’n!  and Carpe Diem!

Respectfully Submitted,             Susie Christman.
