A fire that started in a deep-fryer destroyed the kitchen of the Hamburg Fieldhouse
Saturday morning, according to fire officials.
The building at 127 S. Fourth St. sustained about $80,000 in damage, officials said.
A model airplane club had rented the facility and was holding a show there at the time
of the fire, officials said.
The grease fire broke out at about 10:30 a.m. while some members of the club were
cooking, officials said.
A vendor at the show, whose name was unavailable, suffered minor burns to his hands
while trying to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, officials said.
Firefighters brought the fire under control about 10 minutes after they arrived at the
scene.
The kitchen sustained major fire, smoke and heat damage, while the rest of the building
sustained minor smoke damage, officials said.
The building is owned by the Union Fire Company of Hamburg, which was one of two
companies that responded to the fire, according to Chief Troy R. Hatt.
The company hoped to open the building for a planned event today and for all other
scheduled events, he said.
